Department of Consumer Affairs reviews price and availability of Tomatoes in Delhi; Directs Mother Dairy to sell Tomatoes at 40 Rs. per Kilogram through all its outlets

New Delhi: The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) reviewed the price and availability of Tomatoes in Delhi with stakeholders in a High Level Inter Ministerial Committee meeting chaired by the Secretary, DoCA Shri Avinash K. Srivastava. It was observed that the price of Tomatoes rose sharply since 10th July, 2019. To immediately control the rise in price, the following decisions were taken:

1.      Mother Dairy has been directed to immediately begin sellingquality tomatoes through its retail outlets at 40 Rs. per Kilogram and also increase the supply in the market to ensure that quality tomatoes are available to consumers at lower prices.

2.      Delhi Government’s Food and Civil Supplies department has also been instructed to exhort traders and logistic providers to increase the supply of tomatoes to the mandis to ensure immediate control of price rise.

It was indicated by Horticulture Division (DAC&FW)that the situation is only momentary and augmenting of supplies which has commenced shall further increase. Due to the rains the supply of tomatoes in the market, which wasdelayed, will be back to normal.
