Mass awareness campaign to be launched to make Uttarakhand a polythene free state: CM

Dehradun: On the occasion of the World Environment Day, under the leadership of Chief Minister Mr. Trivendra Singh Rawat, under Mission Rispana to Rishiparna, pits were prepared for tree plantation at Daudwala, Dehradun on Tuesday. Notably, under the Mission Rishiparna, from Rispana origin – Ladhaur Shikhar Fall to Motharwala-Daudwala, 2.5 lakh trees of different species would be planted in 32-KM area.

On this occasion, Chief Minister said that Rispana to Rishiparna is a long term and ambitious campaign of the government. He said that in this mission, apart from the local people, various government and Non Government Organisations (NGOs), institutes, the government is also getting support from even the people from other states. For the rejuvenation of Rispana and Kosi, three and half lakh trees will be planted on one day during ‘Harela’ festival. He said that work of tree plantation would be done totally with public cooperation.

Chief Minister said that in the initial stage, target has been set for the rejuvenation of the Rispana and Kosi river. Afterwards, other water sources would also be rejuvenated. Extending World Environment Day wishes to the people, Chief Minister said that environment conservation is a collective responsibility of all of us. He said that in year 2018, hosting of World Environment Day is being done by India. He added that for the call given by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for plastic free India, support from everyone is important.

Chief Minister said that from coming July 31, a complete ban on polythene will be imposed on polythene in Uttarakhand. All the polythene wholesalers have been asked to finish the polythene stock by the given date. Chief Minister said that one week before the ban, a mass awareness campaign, pertaining to the environmental damage due to polythene, would be undertaken in the entire state. He said that in order to make Uttarakhand a polythene free state, apart from support from social organizations, there is need for public cooperation as well.

District Magistrate S A Murugeshan informed that 39 blocks have been made from Ladhaur Shikhar Fall to Motharwala-Daudwala for tree plantation. In the entire area, trees of different species would be planted and in these 30 per cent trees would be fruit bearing. He said that in this mission, they are receiving good response from everyone.

On this occasion, MLA Vinod Chamoli, BJP’s Dehradun city president Vinay Goyal, jawans of Garhwal Rifle and local people also prepared pits for tree plantation in Daudwala. After this, the Chief Minister planted trees at CM residence. On the occasion of the World Environment Day, he planted high quality trees of Litchi, Pomegranate, Guava, Peach, Plum and Pear.
